Building your list is a primary factor in the success of any home based business. How to build that list can be elusive if you do not have access to the proper tools.
I’ve been in Network Marketing since January 2005 and I’ll be the first to tell you that it wasn’t always as easy as my upline told me it would be. In fact over the years I have evolved to a point where I’ve virtually dumped anything I was told to do in the beginning and after several years of limited success, I opted to carve out my own path.
I took a very intensive marketing course in 2007 which started me on the path to achieving credibility as well as establishing myself as an expert in my industry. While I don’t believe that everyone needs to go the direction I decided on, I do believe that as a Network Marketer we each do have to establish ourselves as experts in our field.
As I mentioned, I followed the course laid out to me by my upline and my success was very limited. I was spending so much money on what I was told were “premium industry specific leads” and never really had any success with them. I don’t believe that it was my presentation of my business opportunity but my lack of tools that I was able to provide these prospects.
I was ill prepared to provide my prospects as well as my downline with the actual tools they needed to build their own successful home based business. I started to see that I needed to make changes in how I operated my own business. This led me to realize that the best lead available was the lead that I generated myself.
Keep in mind that while I had this epiphany I still didn’t have a clue how to do it. I started searching the internet for different ways to generate my own leads and tried many different methods without a lot of success. Again I was faced with spending a ton of money to generate only a few leads each month. The ROI just wasn’t there and it was driving me nuts.
I reviewed what I had learned from my marketing course as well as my experiences in trying to generate my own leads and I realized that I was not building any credibility simply by promoting my primary business. It took me a little while to realize that while I may be an expert in my primary business, I lacked what was necessary to portray myself as an expert in the Marketing arena.
Once again I started searching for tools as well as knowledge to set myself up as a Marketing Expert. I realized that in order for me to be an expert in the Marketing industry, I had to have tools and training in place to start attracting people. The tools and training would establish me with the credibility I needed to be perceived as a Marketing Expert and once I had established that expertise I could make my recommendations for my primary business opportunities.
Over the course of this experience I tried several different systems and finally found one that worked in my situation and suited my business needs. I wanted to set myself up as an industry leader and I am finally on the path to doing just that. I would encourage all network marketers to find a system that works for you and start providing your downline with the tools and education that is necessary for them to find the level of success that they desire and deserve.
I am now generating leads based on my Marketing Expertise which in turn provides me leads for my primary business by marketing knowledge instead of opportunity.
